Abstract

Australian wetlands are among the most ecologically significant ecosystems, providing essential habitats for diverse biological communities and delivering critical ecosystem services. This paper examines the ecological characteristics of Australian wetlands, focusing on wetland classification, biodiversity, ecosystem functions, and major environmental pressures. By synthesizing established ecological research and Australian case studies, this study highlights the importance of wetlands in maintaining ecological balance and supports the need for effective conservation and sustainable management strategies.
